The first United States Arbitration & Mediation (USA&M)
office was established in Seattle, Washington in 1981 by
attorney Michael Gillie. That first office, known as
Washington Arbitration & Mediation Service (and now USA&M
of Washington), became the model upon which all subsequent
USA&M offices were based.
In 1984, USA&M was formally incorporated and became a
franchise operation licensed throughout the U.S. with
offices located from Seattle, Washington and Portland,
Oregon to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to Chicago, Illinois
to Miami, Florida - and many states in between.
In the early 1990s, the USA&M corporate structure was
changed to an association model in order to maintain the
consistency of professional standards while recognizing
the regional differences in operational requirements.
All USA&M offices are overseen by attorneys and staffed
by professional administrators who specialize in the
management of alternative dispute resolution claim files.
USA&M panel members are predominantly attorneys with subject
matter expertise covering a wide range of legal fields.
